It’s that time of year again! Time to start planning for next year’s PTA executive board. If you are interested in serving on our nominating committee, please email Lisa Furmanek at by this Friday. The nominating committee’s role is to put together a slate of nominees for next year’s elected officers. We need your help in finding the best candidates for the job!

News for the Week

Mrs. Copenhaver and Ms. Browne would like to remind you that our Square One Art fundraiser has started! All orders help our art teachers buy supplies for our students.  April 23rd is the last day to order these amazing keepsakes.

All parents need to sign up for the Parent Backpack.  This is critical in order to receive important district information.  You may begin this process by going HERE

The Spring Book Fair is this week, April 19-23. Students will be using Scholastic e-wallets only, no cash or checks accepted so it will be contactless. No visitors are permitted, but families are encouraged to shop online together! Set up an e-wallet here.

The next virtual SIC meeting is May 3, at 7:45 am.  You can email Mark Loach at for the link to the meeting.  The School Improvement Council is made up of school faculty members, parents, and community stakeholders.  The purpose of the committee is to identify and address needs for school improvement.  Anyone is welcome to attend a Monarch SIC meeting.

The WINGS Committee will be hosting a zoom parent information meeting tonight at 7:30 about the WINGS Leadership Development Program (LDP) Please join us if you would like more information about the WINGS LDP or have questions about the application process or program.

Yearbook deadline extended to April 18.

Monarch’s 2020-2021 yearbook will be on sale online from Jan. 28, 2021 through April 18, 2021. The website to place online orders is and Monarch’s school code is 13889.  You can also click on the Yearbook Sales image to place your order.

The yearbook costs $26.00 and will be full color and bound with a hard cover again this year.  Ordering yearbooks online by April 18, 2021is the only guarantee that students will receive a yearbook. Those who choose not to order online may send in payment to the classroom teacher with checks made payable to Monarch Elem.

Parents with virtual students can email pictures of your students to Mrs. Copenhaver by April 12 to have them included in the yearbook.

Picture Day

Spring Picture Day is Tuesday,  March 23. Spring photos will be prepaid this year. Please see the information attached to prepay for pictures. The students will need to bring the prepayment to school tomorrow. No pictures will be taken without payment.

Author Visit

New York Times bestselling children’s author
Jory John and illustrator Erin Kraan will be
doing a virtual visit at Monarch Elementary
School on Friday, March 26th, to discuss their
new picture book, Something’s Wrong!.
Local independent bookstore Fiction Addiction
(1175 Woods Crossing Rd., 675-0540) is
supplying us with books for the event.
If you would like to pre-order books (including a
signed bookplate), please attach your payment

teacher by Friday, March 12th. Note: Orders

Parent Backpack

It is extremely important that every parent enroll in Greenville County School’s Parent Backpack. This is a one-time enrollment, so if you signed up last year you do not need to sign up again.  Backpack is an online tool that will allow you to view your child’s grades, see district and state testing scores, attendance and more. Parent Backpack works on any device and is mobile friendly.  Learn more information by going to Parent Backpack at

WINGS Program

The School Improvement Council (SIC) has exciting news to share. During the 2020-2021 school year, the SIC developed the WINGS program as part of the PTA. WINGS will be making its debut at Monarch this spring and the full program will begin in the fall for the 2021-2022 school year.

Next week, Monarch will host two informational meetings to introduce WINGS. Please join us for a meeting on February 17th or 18th.
