Monapalooza is the 2nd largest fundraiser for the Monarch Elementary PTA but arguably the most fun!!! Monapalooza is held at Monarch Elementary in the spring each year and consists of fair style rides and games, a silent auction, a bake sale and much, much more. In total, the carnival and silent auction raised over $22,000 for the Monarch Elementary PTA. This year, Monapalooza will be on April 3rd from 4pm-8pm.
The carnival side of the event includes fair style rides like the Pirate Ship, Swings and Scat as well as bounce houses and an obstacle course. There are lots of carnival style games, face painting, pictures with princesses and Star Wars characters, a cake walk and much more. There are a variety of food vendors so dinner and dessert are available. Everything is paid for with tickets which can be pre-purchased the week before the carnival
and/or purchased the night of the event. Because of limited parking at the school, there is a shuttle service that runs from Advent United Methodist Church on Woodruff Road.
The silent auction is a shopper’s dream!! There are hundreds of items ranging in value from $10 to over $1200. Disney tickets, restaurant gift cards, rounds of golf – there is something for everyone. All of the items being auctioned have been donated by businesses and/or our school community. Each grade level has themed baskets that are assembled from donations from our Monarch families as well as artwork that is created with the help of the art teachers and PTA volunteers. Finally, we have “teacher dates” where two students per teacher can win a fun “date” to be held after school on April 9th . New this year – some of our related arts teachers will be doing dates as well! All bidding takes place online, but items will be available for viewing during Monapalooza.
Even though the carnival only lasts four hours, to put all of it together takes an enormous amount of support from our entire school community. Several weeks before the date of the event, requests will go out to each grade level for donations to fill the auction baskets. In addition, there will be requests for water, soda and candy to supply the games and prizes for the carnival and for baked goods to be sold at the bake sale. Last but certainly not least, there will be requests for lots and lots of volunteers – leading up to and including the day of Monapalooza!!
The only way this event can happen is if there is support from the entire school!!! This includes the teachers who all volunteer to help.
